Vegan mayonnaise (soy-free)

A good mayonnaise is a must in every kitchen. This one is made out of sunflower seeds and to my taste is much better than a traditional mayonnaise you’ll find at the grocery store. Let’s be honest, when I did this recipe for the first time, I was a little scared that it would be too healthy or that it would only taste the sunflower seeds. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

So here it is, the mayonnaise recipe that was so popular in our food truck for the last 3 years. A recipe that you’ll want to have as a staple in your fridge.

Vegan mayonnaise (soy-free)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sunflower oil  (preferably without taste)*

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients except the oil in the container of a high-speed blender.
  2. Mix until smooth.
  3. Add the oil half a cup at the time.

It can be kept 2 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator.

*It is preferable to use a flat flavor oil to obtain a neutral mayonnaise taste. Ex: Avocado oil, sunflower oleic oil or grapeseed oil.

  1. I made this today for when my usual vegan mayo (shop-bought) ran out. My little boy is allergic to soya, eggs, dairy and legumes, and this worked really well, so thank you. 🙂
